Google Allo Passed The Barrier of 5 Million Downloads in One Week

History repeats itself. Once Google Duo to succeed 5 million downloads a week of being released, ahora toca le Google Allo repeat the script while he wears the new logo of more than five million downloads in Google Play.

Google Allo officially became Google Play September 23 and took not more than two days to pass the million. Following the Google Duo pattern we can predict that in three weeks it will reach ten million downloads.

The figure is fine, but taking into account the enormous advance, tracking media worldwide and the power to “Google” the name, us knows little. Allo does not seem to have managed to engage the virality necessary for the introduction of an application in an already saturated ecosystem.

Although Justin Uberti, Technical Lead of Duo and Google engineer remind us that Allo is a 1.0 version and therefore we should not expect the Moon from it, this gives the normal user the same. However, Allo has a technical advantage over Duo, the Technology Message Preview by which you can kindly invite your contacts that do not use the application to install, without need to send messages using other messaging application. On the other hand, Allo has a problem that Duo has no, language. The wizard of Google is greatly dependent on the language function and that for now only available in English and hindi soon. They are two of the most widely spoken languages worldwide, but this limitation leaves out a good part of the world’s population for which the wizard of Google is, to this day, totally useless.

Moreover, Allo faces the same problem as Duo, the need of convince millions of people so try and persist in using it. It is a difficult task and we are likely in the coming days also Allo ads and, what is more important, we finish watching it pre-installed in the Androids of the future. Google Duo is already at work with the preinstallations.

Is it this that the future of Allo and Duo are basically linked to Google to include it us Perforce do on Android we want it or not? Short term Yes, but long term they come into play more factors as to which level progress these applications and potential fiasco in other messaging applications that cause leakage of users, as it has happened to WhatsApp several times.

At the moment it is too early to bury Allo forever on the heap of failures of Google Messaging applications, although it is also being very optimistic celebrate their five million downloads as a milestone. They really mean nothing.
