Tectoy has already been one of the great names in technology in Brazil during the period when it was the legal representative of SEGA here, linking its brand to successful products like the Mega Drive and Master System consoles-but that time has passed. The company, however, remains firm and returns a half-dozen new features in the national technology market.
Recently, two new models of tablets were announced by the company, being one of them TT-2800, also called Tectoy Octopus. The device has simple configurations and fits into an intermediate price range, presenting itself as a national alternative to those looking for a laptop capable of performing the basics, reported by Estaterealest.com.
We tested the device and you now check our analysis. Does Tectoy achieve its goal successfully?
When looking at the Tectoy Octopus, you do not see any serious flaws. The look of the handset has the combination of the front, with dark edges, and a silver back cover, creating a great contrast. The finish is also very well done, with perfect fittings and firm buttons that should not be pressed by mistake.
The inputs are all on the top of the device, except for the headset, which contributes to a better organization of the physical appearance of Tectoy Octopus. The connectors also come in perfect condition without any fitting problem.
High definition playback
Although it fits into an intermediate price range, Tectoy Octopus has the ability to play HD videos(720p), something that can not be overlooked. If the screen is not the clearest and with the best color balance you’ve ever seen, those looking for the basics will find this resource very valuable here today.
Connects to everything
Another advantage of Tectoy Octopus is the variety of connectors it features. With support for mini HDMI and mini USB, in addition to wireless connections via WiFi and Bluetooth, the device can be connected to any other device without major problems.
TVs, computers and even pendrives come on the list, after all the tablet’s basic kit comes with an adapter that turns the mini USB port into conventional USB. Thus, it allows the connection of any item of the genre, as well as an external HD or a 3G modem.
The headphones in the Tectoy Octopus basic kit are not good, but the unit’s speakers do not disappoint. They sin only by not allowing very high volume reproductions, but the quality of the sound it emits deserves attention. Basses are well perceived and this is a good option to use the handset as a portable radio in its solitary moments.
Turning heavy games is not the focus of Tectoy, but basic navigation apps can hang out here quietly. It chokes a little when it comes to multitasking, especially if you put more than three apps to work at the same time, but it’s something to deal with, not limiting the use of the device.
Despite the low score in benchmark tests when compared to today’s big names, it still performs well in certain aspects, even if it is confronted with more recent releases. Anyway, it fits well into the basic pattern.
The Tectoy Octopus battery did not leave anything to be desired. In the tests we did, it performed well in YouTube videos, as well as playing audio and playing some games. Playing back HD videos until the battery ran out, it lasted about five hours.
Smooth rear and susceptible to scratches
If the look of the Tectoy Octopus does not disappoint, its functionality can easily be checked. This is because the rear is completely flat and this, combined with a little anatomical footprint, can mean an easier device to slip out of your hand.
Needless to say, this is problematic, especially since the rear is composed of an easily scratchable and apparently unsightly plastic material. That is, simple falls can mean not only the presence of risks, but also the breaking of the back cover.
Camera for what?
If one of the essential points for you on a tablet is the ability to take beautiful photographs, better look for another model. The 2 MP rear camera is not capable of making competent records, so to speak, while the front of 0.3 MP is not a good choice even for videoconferences, perhaps for self-portraits.
For more than two months, the current version of Android is 4.3, meaning two updates have already happened since 4.1 was released. However, the system in the Octopus is precisely this, without any information disclosed by Tectoy that an update will be released soon, something that is obviously not the end of the world, but that is a negative point.
Despite offering 8GB of internal storage, Octopus occupies almost half of it with system items such as the operating system itself. This means that there is relatively little space left to store your things, such as apps, music, videos and photos, that is, the presence of a memory card is almost indispensable.
A problem screen
The screen of the Tectoy Octopus is probably its main negative aspect. Despite being capacitive and responsive enough to touch and offering 8 inches to users, its overall quality leaves much to be desired. The first problem noticed is the issue of sharpness.
The colors displayed here undergo strong changes, all of which are somewhat pale when reproduced. If the screen is at maximum brightness, such a feature is even worse, making the video and photo viewing experience unsatisfactory. Another problem is the angle of view: if you are not exactly in front of the screen, it becomes dark and greatly impairs the view of everything.
Besides all this, the material that lines the screen is made of plastic, another complicated feature of the Octopus. As a result, the equipment becomes much more susceptible to scratches, making it imperative to use a protective film.
Apparently, the price of Tectoy Octopus seems to justify the low quality of several of its aspects, but that is not enough. The device did not present major technical flaws, but left much to be desired at a crucial point for a tablet: the screen. This weighs heavily at the time of choice and can not be left out in this assessment.
Of course the positive factors count, especially the high connectivity of the device-which gives it some versatility. In addition, battery performance and use are other factors that deserve to be regarded as positive.
But it’s not even possible to say that it’s for the basics, after all, the price suggested by the manufacturer(R $ 549) is not attractive when compared to an Asus MeMO Pad(with a slightly higher configuration costing less than $ 500 in stores The internet). You can put it even more expensive with expensive devices, such as Nexus 7 or Galaxy Tab 3, much better options and worth the investment.
In short, you can state without fear of making mistakes that the failures presented by Octopus make it an expensive product, despite having the backing of a landmark brand like Tectoy.
