Montenegro is a republic in the Balkans. Montenegro has been an independent,
internationally recognized republic since June 2006.

According to AllCityPopulation.com, Montenegro consists predominantly of high, in many places impassable
mountains, which culminate in the limestone massif Durmitor (2522 m). The
mountains extend southwest to the southernmost part of the Dalmatian coast,
where the colorful karst landscape reaches close to the coast between Budva and
Petrovac.

A deep fjord stretches all the way to the old, fortified town
of Kotor. Behind the coast lies the Zeta plain and further south Lake
Shkodra. The sheltered Mediterranean coastal areas with subtropical vegetation
are replaced by harsh inland mountain areas, where snow occurs during the
summer. Only parts of the former extensive forests
of beech, oak or ash remain. Farming, in many places grazing with especially
sheep farming, remains an important occupation in Montenegro.
