Asus Launches Zenfone Zoom in Brazil: 3x Optical Zoom and Powerful Hardware

Premium smartphone from Asus arrives in the country costing up to R $ 3299 with 128GB of storage

Direct Santos – Asus presented on Friday (25) the Zenfone Zoom smartphone that has camera with 3x optical zoom and promises to satisfy demanding consumers with photography. The device was presented during a cruise to the press and has leather trim and hardware similar to Zenfone 2 with quad-core Intel Atom processor, 4 GB of RAM and up to 128GB of space.

The camera Zenfone Zoom has 13 megapixel sensor and Panasonic 28-84 mm lens with 10 elements developed by Hoya. The aperture varies from f / 2.7 to f / 4.8, depending on the focal length. Even with optical zoom, the device is very thin; the lens does not extend out as the Galaxy Camera and other ordinary compact cameras.

The design was thought to improve the photography experience: there is a dedicated button to take pictures, record videos and another for up to a zoom control. The rear leather has a slight bulge on the side where the fingers engage, to improve the ergonomics when holding the zoom to Zenfone.

What is optical zoom on your smartphone? First, you can approach objects that are far away without losing image quality, unlike what happens with digital zoom (which simply stretches and cuts the picture). But Asus says that the function can also be interesting for photographs in macro – all lenses have a minimum focusing limit, and optical zoom helps to overcome this issue.

The Zenfone Zoom is very similar to the Zenfone 2. As the smartphone released by Asus in August 2015, the camera that makes connections has IPS LCD screen of 5.5 inches with a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels, 5 megapixel front camera and 3,000 mAh battery – including fast charging, from 0% to 60% in 39 minutes. Taiwanese continue betting on the 4 GB of RAM to boost performance multitasking device.

Being a niche player, it is clear that the Zenfone Zoom is not cheap – but it still is below premium smartphones from competitors. Two variants will be marketed in Brazil. The simplest model has quad-core Intel Atom 2.3 GHz and 64 GB of internal storage, with suggested price of US $ 2,699. In the high-end, the CPU frequency up to 2.5 GHz and the memory doubles to 128 GB, for R $ 3,299. In both versions, you can install a microSD of up to 128GB.
