VISAS, ENTRY RULES, CUSTOMS REGULATIONS in Cyprus

From January 1, 2004, Russian citizens need to apply for a visa to enter Cyprus.

To obtain a visa, you must provide the following documents:

– Passport, until the expiration of which there are at least 6 months left and its copy;

– one photo taken recently;

– a completed application form (can be downloaded from the embassy website).

– certified confirmation of the reservation for accommodation in a hotel or other residential complex;

– in the case of a private invitation, a special form of a document on the responsibility of the inviting person is provided with a copy of his passport. If the inviting person is not a citizen of Cyprus, his residence permit in the Republic of Cyprus is attached to the invitation. The declaration of responsibility must be certified by a representative of the local authority;

The visa process takes 24 hours. For holders of Russian passports, obtaining a visa is free of charge. At passport control, you must be prepared to present the following documents:

– a foreign passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation, valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry into the Republic of Cyprus;

– return air ticket with the specified date of departure;

– a voucher for tourist services (in its absence – cash at the rate of $ 500 for a week of stay in the country per person).

Minor children must be entered in the parents’ passports or have their own passport.

To travel to the island, you must take out medical insurance.

Entry is possible only through the legally established border points – the international airports of Larnaca and Paphos and the seaports of Larnaca, Limassol and Paphos. Entry through ports located in the occupied territory is prohibited. Any stamp affixed by the authorities of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus may result in refusal of entry into the territory of the Republic of Cyprus or Greece. Applicants bearing the seal of the so-called “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus” in their passports are allowed to enter the territory of Cyprus, provided that the aforementioned visa is canceled by the Immigration Services or the Consular Department of the Republic of Cyprus.

There are no restrictions on the import and export of foreign currency, but the amount above $1,000 must be declared.

Duty-free you can import 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 250 g of tobacco, 1 liter of spirits or 0.75 liters of wine, 0.3 liters of perfume or eau de toilette. It is forbidden to import fruits and fresh flowers, weapons, drugs. It is prohibited to lift archaeological treasures from the bottom of the sea or to take them out of the territory of Cyprus without the prior permission of the Director of the Department of Antiquities.

Telephone communication is established with more than 200 countries. You can call from a call center, from a pay phone or from a hotel (in this case, the call will cost more). Before 8 am and after 10 pm a call will cost about 1.5 times cheaper. The reduced rate is valid on weekends and national holidays in Cyprus.

If January 1, March 25, May 1 and October 1 falls on a Sunday, then the following Monday is a public holiday.

In addition to these official holidays, there are many local and seasonal celebrations in Cyprus (for example, the Paphos flower fair, the folk dance festival and the wine festival in Limassol).

USEFUL THINGS
Even a two-star hotel in Cyprus is pretty decent. The level of service in hotels is high.

Russians in this country are loved and tourists are treated very carefully.

SHOPS
According to lawschoolsinusa, supermarkets in the tourist area are open daily. Shops outside this zone are closed on Sunday, and on Wednesdays and Saturdays they are open until 14:00. Opening hours from May to September 8.00 – 13.00 and 16.00 – 19.00, opening hours from October to April 8.00 – 13.00 and 14.30 – 18.00. Some stores have a tax free system (tax-free sale). Upon presentation of a receipt for goods purchased in such stores, VAT is refunded at the airport.

TIPS
Sometimes tips are included in the bill, but even then it is customary to give them about 10% of the bill. Tips are also given to taxi drivers, and to maids when leaving.

Cypriots are very hospitable and friendly people. Often in stores, sellers can treat you with something or give something as a gift. A distinctive feature of the Cypriots is religiosity. It is forbidden to enter churches and temples in shorts and bareheaded.

Emergency medical care is provided free of charge, in other cases, treatment is paid through the insurance company.
