THE HAWAIIAN ISLANDS
OAHU
Oahu is the most populous island in Hawaii. Here is Honolulu, the capital of the United States’ 50th state. In addition to beautiful beaches such as the world-famous Waikiki Beach, you will find green mountain ranges and impressive skyscrapers in and around Honolulu. Look forward to a city where there is always something going on. The rest of Oahu also has a lot to offer and every year the landscape impresses numerous visitors from all over the world. The interior of the island is rich in tropical rainforests and exotic gardens. There is also a multitude of sights and attractions on Oahu such as Pearl Harbor. Here the events of December 7, 1941 are commemorated. That day, the Japanese launched a surprise attack on the United States that left many people dead.
MAUI
Maui is the second largest island in Hawaii and the perfect vacation destination for nature lovers, hikers and water sports enthusiasts. Look forward to many exotic plant species, sandy beaches in various colors and two huge volcanoes that are connected by a land bridge. But Maui is not only known for its beautiful landscapes, it is also very popular with water sports enthusiasts. Due to its year-round high temperatures, the island is one of the island’s surfing and diving hotspots.
KAUAI
Many people call Kauai the most beautiful island in the archipelago. Tropical rainforests, peak mountain peaks and rushing waterfalls captivate a large number of visitors every year. Kauai, also known as the Garden Island, is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. Explore the scenic landscapes such as ziplining, kayaking on the Wailua River or hiking on the Kalalau Trail. With its spectacular views, this trail is one of the most beautiful in the United States.
HAWAII ISLAND
Hawaii Island is the largest island in the archipelago and is still growing due to lava flowing underground. The island impresses above all with its diverse nature, which is characterized on one side by tropical rainforests and lush vegetation, on the other hand by barren volcanic landscapes and black sandy beaches. If you like coffee, the small town of Kona is the perfect vacation destination for you. The aromatic Kona coffee is produced here and celebrated at the annual “Kona Coffee Cultural Festival”.
MOLOKAI
Molokai is one of the most pristine Hawaiian islands and many of the island’s inhabitants are descended from the native Hawaiians. The island welcomes fewer visitors than its neighboring island Maui and nature lovers in particular are in the right place here. Marvel at the world’s tallest sea cliffs, one of the longest sandy beaches, and the longest fringing reef in Hawaii. The locals absolutely want to preserve the natural treasures of the island and so you won’t find large buildings, shopping centers or fast food chains on Molokai. During a vacation on Molokai you will get to know the original Hawaii through exciting outdoor activities. Whether golfing, hiking, snorkeling, kayaking or mountain biking – the selection is huge.
LANAI
Smaller and quieter than the other islands in the Hawaiian archipelago, Lanai is known for its luxury. Celebrities from all over the world regularly bustle in the first-class hotels on the island. Lanai offers many sporting activities like snorkeling and diving. There are also two excellent golf courses here. Lanai is suitable for both a longer stay and a day trip. The ferry takes only 45 minutes from Maui and departs several times a day.
BEST TRAVEL TIME
Hawaii is a year-round travel destination due to the tropical temperatures. Nevertheless, a few months are better than others to spend a vacation with great outdoor activities in Hawaii. We recommend that you travel to Hawaii from May to October as there is very little rain at this time and the temperatures on the islands are nice and warm. A trip between November and April is also worthwhile to escape the cool temperatures in Germany. Water activities are also possible all year round, as the water temperatures are always pleasantly warm. Our tip: Avoid the months of July and August, as the Americans have summer holidays and it can be crowded and expensive in many places.
