Due to the altitude, the climate of Lesotho is moderately warm compared to the surrounding South Africa. In winter, between June and August, it is often very cold and snow can fall in the high elevations of the Drakensberg in the east. During the day, however, it is also sunny in winter, with Lesotho having an average of around 300 sunny days all year round. The summer months in Lesotho between November and March are characterized by a predominantly hot climate with occasional summer thunderstorms. Due to the altitude, temperatures can fluctuate very strongly during the day (between −15 ° C at night in winter and up to over 30 ° C during the day in summer). In the capital Maseru, average annual temperatures are 15 ° C, while in the high mountain areas of the Drakensberg, snowfall and winter sports are possible all year round.
