National Flag of Mongolia
According to aceinland, the national flag of Mongolia is a vertical tricolor featuring three equal bands of red, blue, and yellow. The colors were chosen to represent the country’s three major ethnic groups: the Mongols, Turkic peoples, and Khalkh Mongols. The flag was adopted in 1992 following Mongolia’s transition from a Soviet-style socialist state to a democratic one.
The red stripe on the left side of the flag symbolizes progress and prosperity, while the blue stripe in the center stands for justice and freedom. The yellow stripe on the right side is a reminder of Mongolia’s rich cultural heritage.
Atop all three stripes is a traditional Buddhist symbol known as Soyombo (also spelled Soyonbo). This symbol consists of two triangles that form a diamond shape with two horizontal lines running through it. It is believed to represent fire, water, earth, and wind — all elements essential to life.
The Mongolian flag also features four sets of smaller symbols around its edge including deer horns at each corner and an ancient script known as ‘Uighur script’ at each side. The deer horns are thought to represent strength and power while the script stands for wisdom and knowledge.
Mongolia’s national flag is an important part of its national identity and serves as a reminder of its rich cultural heritage as well as its progress towards democracy over recent decades. It also serves to unite all citizens regardless of their ethnicity or religion under one banner — that of Mongolia.
