Azerbaijan has a continental climate. Summers are warm and dry. In July the mercury rises to 30-35°C. In the Caucasus, in the north, temperatures are moderated by altitude. In winter the mercury drops to about 5 degrees. At night it freezes slightly to moderately. Most precipitation falls in the months of May and June and in October. It never really gets wet in Azerbaijan. The forest area in the south receives the most rainfall. The middle is very dry. It is often quite windy at the Caspian Sea.
