The island of Madagascar is located in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of Mozambique. The climate is very diverse and is partly influenced by the characteristic mountain ridge that runs from north to south. The southeast winds bring a lot of precipitation to the eastern side of the mountain range all year round. There are also tropical rainforests. It is warmest from December to March (30°C). It is then necessary to watch out for cyclones. It is a lot less wet on the west side of the ridge. From April to October it is dry and therefore the best travel period.
