Mali is one of the largest and poorest countries in Africa. The north is part of the Sahara. It is dry and scorching hot there, sometimes reaching 50°C. Central Mali is located in the Sahel region: it is also warm there, but slightly less. The south has a steppe climate and the extreme southwest even has a tropical climate. There is precipitation there, especially from June to the end of September. From October to March it is ‘winter’ in Mali. That means only 30°C during the day in the south.
