Turkmenistan is a fairly flat country located east of the Caspian Sea. There is an extreme continental climate. The temperature differences within a day and within a year are enormous. In July it will be 40°C in the Karakum desert. In January the mercury drops to about 5 degrees. In the middle of summer, the night and day temperatures can easily be 20 degrees apart. There is not much rain. The water that falls falls between December and May, but no more than 25 millimeters. In the summer it is bone dry. Best travel period is the European spring or autumn.
